“McCoy’s of Green Bay” officially opened the doors in 1969, but the journey actually began back in 1960 when Ken McCoy started flat-track racing when he was a sophomore in high school. At that time, there were no full-time motorcycle dealerships in the area, and sponsorship support was unavailable.
To support his racing effort, Ken worked part-time for Appleton Harley-Davidson. In 1966, Ken began working full-time in Appleton selling and servicing Harley-Davidson® motorcycles.
In 1969, Ken bought the Green Bay dealership from Bill Wetak, which was located on Atkinson Drive, adjacent to Velp Avenue.
McCoy’s moved in 1975 into a new building adjacent to Velp Avenue and Highway 41 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
In 1996, McCoy’s opened a second location a few miles south of Green Bay in West DePere.
McCoy’s opened a third location in 1999 at the intersection of Interstate 43 and Highway JJ in east Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Used Harley-Davidson bikes are sold at McCoy’s Green Bay location who also sells and services “used” foreign bikes that are taken-in as trades. Ken is joined in business by his two sons, who have both been working with Ken since graduating from school. Ken’s son Kip works in sales, and his son Tom works in service. Ken’s daughter, Cory, also fills-in from time to time during “special events”.
Ken McCoy, who is an American Motorcyclist Association “Life-Member”, also promoted and sponsored flat-track motorcycle racing from the late 1970s to mid 1980s.
From the Knucklehead to the Panhead to the Shovelhead, and from the Evolution® to the Twin-Cam to the Revolution®, we have seen a lot of change in the past 40 years. We were in business during the AMF acquisition period, and like everyone else, we felt the tariff years of the 1980s… we were also around when Harley-Davidson was purchased back from AMF.
